OFF THE BEATEN PATH
This body of work is inspired from my travels through the back roads of California, The Rockies and Northern Europe. While I was preparing my material for these paintings, I was asked the question ‘what do you paint?’. After much thought the answer came simply, Trees, I paint trees (mostly). Some trees lend themselves to a very minimalist painting, others more complex. Sometimes I will paint a hint of structures, sometimes I paint fields, sometimes farmlands, and sometimes still life (usually fruit from trees), but I always seem to be pulled back to trees. From my earliest memories, I have found a sense of peace and solace among trees. They are a place where I can find a clear mind. Perhaps that is why I paint them, so I may convey the peace and solace I experience with others.
